Meet the Maker

Hello

I’m Meriah, the heart and soul that makes up Ebony & Ember. I’m the dreamer, maker, photographer, packager, etc...all the things that make up this one-woman show. I say that loosely because, in reality, there are quite a few people that contribute to the successful operation of this shop. From the small businesses I source my materials from to the people I depend on for childcare, running a small business takes its own kind of village and I am endlessly appreciative of each of the souls in mine.

Starting down the road of creating was hard for me. Not necessarily in the doing, but in the starting. I’ve spent my entire life believing that I am just not artistically inclined; that what doesn’t seem to come naturally to me, must not be possible. The desire has always been there - this deep, unexplainable, aching pull towards...something. Never quite able to pin it down, I pushed it back. I even went to college and spent over five years in a career field that was definitely not “creative”.

One day, I mentioned to my awesome artist and entrepreneur friend that I’m just not cut out for it. This beautiful soul simply smiled and said “I disagree. I believe all people are meant to create in some way.”

And as it turns out, I just had to find my way.

My hope is that each piece that leaves my hands travels with you on your journey. Take it out, climb mountains, raise babies, take that step that’s been scaring you. Bring it along as you pursue your most authentic self and the life you truly want to live. In this way, this metal and stone becomes a part of your history; a small reminder of what makes you, you.

Now a little bit about how I run this thing:

I’m a huge believer in supporting small businesses when possible- the closer to home the better. All of my stones are individually selected from small businesses, ethically sourced and almost all of them are mined and finished in America.

All of my pieces are .925 sterling silver and are brought to life with my own two hands here in the mountains of Northern Idaho.

I do my best to minimize my impact on this beautiful earth. All packaging and products that I send out are eco-friendly and responsibly sourced. This includes FSC certified and recyclable jewelry boxes, organic and fair trade cotton padding, 100% recycled mail envelopes, zero waste shipping labels (100% recycled and 100% curbside recyclable), recycled paper business and care cards as well as plantable jewelry display cards (yes, you can grow awesome wildflowers with them!).

This is where I’m at and I’m learning and growing every day. It is my hope to be the type of small business that you can feel good about supporting.
